Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is reportedly obsessed with the idea of signing Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.

Amid reports that the Spaniard is set to leave the Premier League next year, the Man City manager is interested in signing the Brazilian midfielder.

He has won the Premier League five times while at the Manchester club, and he hoisted the Champions League trophy last season as his team completed the treble.

Man City manager wants to sign Newcastle midfielder

According to Spanish publication Fichajes, Guardiola is reportedly keeping an eye on summer moves and he is keen to sign the Brazilian international.

In the 2022 January transfer window, the Magpies defeated Arsenal in the race to sign him for about £40 million.

As per the report in Fichajes, the Man City manager is ‘obsessed’ with signing Guimaraes and it would cost him around £85m to sign the Newcastle United star.

Bruno Guimaraes to Man City?

Guimaraes’ contract is said to have a £100 million release clause, and it’s been reported that a record transfer fee is necessary to complete the move.

Newcastle could be forced to sell their most prized asset as they are looking to balance their books.

The Magpies need to sell players in order to generate funds for new signings and Guimaraes could be the player they could cash in on.

Sweden international striker Alexander Isak has also been mentioned as one of the players who could possibly leave St. James’ Park at the end of the season.

Guimaraes has been one of Newcastle’s shining stars under Eddie Howe. The Brazilian contributed greatly to their successful campaign last season.

He helped the Magpies to qualify for the Champions League and the Carabao Cup final last season.

  1. Tell you what, we’ll just sell all our best players to the so called Big Six eh? After all they’re all entitled aren’t they to cream the very best around?
It makes you wonder why we bother buying and developing top players in the first place That is, of course, unless you believe all the stories in the press.
Beware of what you read and hear however – the PIF aren’t stupid.
Just be thankful the obviously canted FFP is around. If it weren’t we’d be buying everyone’s players. Be aware if it ever changes.

  2. All these posts of who is going & coming without any truth are becoming annoying. 90+ percent don’t materialise. I know there are those who love them, but most of us don’t.
I read the first few sentences & switched off.
My fault but I can see me in future ignoring these headlines until it happens.
Bruno & the other stars need to stay, unless they want away. Newcastle owners should be challenging the league on why we can’t spend the same as other Top Six, it’s unlikely the Oil will run out soon or the Owners go bust. I thought the whole reason was to protect companies who could be owed money & staff losing jobs by Club owners over stretching.
The Premier didn’t go after Mike Ashley when he stripped the club of required investment.
I personally would prefer my team not to buy Trophies but I do believe we have a system protecting those at the top for the near future.
Maybe go back to Black & White TV, those were the days when we won our Trophies, or was it Leather Balls, Long Shorts & Health & Safety protected Football Boots.
Wor Jackie Milburn still lives on, come on the Toon.
    Come on the Toon,

  3. Gumares will not entertain playing in league 2 as Man.City will play in league 2.The premier league must stop nepotism.Punishing Man.city has been long overdue.Everton and Forest had been deducted points but English are reluctant to finally punish Man.City.Is it because of the fact that Man.City owners are wealthy or Premier league bribed?

  4. The obsession is with media pundits and bedroom journalists. Bruno is happy at Newcastle and would only be sold for FFP reasons. If that was the case which I doubt it is, he’ll be sold to a CL club outside the Prem why would we strnghten a rival further? Man City also have some issues to reslove, as they may be in alot of trouble.
