Liverpool given injury update about Andy Robertson after scare in friendly for Scotland

Due to an ankle injury sustained on Tuesday night against Northern Ireland, Scotland captain Andy Robertson could not be available for Liverpool for the start of the Premier League title run-in.

After hobbling off during the first half of the 1-0 loss, Robertson will travel to Liverpool for medical evaluation, according to Scotland boss Steve Clarke.

Shortly before Conor Bradley, Robertson’s teammate at Liverpool, scored the game’s lone goal at Hampden, Robertson attempted to continue but was replaced.

Liverpool defender has been injured before this season

This is not the first time the left-back has faced injury issues this season. The Scottish defender was out of action for three months earlier in the season due to a shoulder injury.

With the Euros just eleven weeks away and the Reds approaching a pivotal phase of the season under Jurgen Klopp, he looked defeated when he was substituted off against Northern Ireland.

Clarke, the Scotland coach, provided an update about the injury. “He’s just come off the pitch, let the injury take its course,” he said, as quoted by The Athletic.

“He’ll go back to his club and they’ll assess it and hopefully it’s not too serious.”

The severity of Robertson’s injury is still unknown, but even if his absence was necessary as a precaution, Liverpool supporters will be anxious for a clear report.

A number of Liverpool players have faced injury problems

Klopp has gone through the trouble of key players suffering injuries this season with Mo Salah, Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joel Matip all missing action due to fitness issues.

Despite having a squad plagued by injuries the whole season, Klopp’s team have managed to persevere thus far.

In their first Premier League game back on Sunday, the Reds take on Brighton. Later in the afternoon, championship rivals Manchester City play Arsenal.
