Germany international Timo Werner joined Tottenham Hotspur in January in a loan deal from Bundesliga club RB Leipzig.
Marco Rose, the manager of the German club, has stated that he is pleased to see the former Chelsea attacker enjoying life at Tottenham.
The 28-year-old Werner has made seven appearances for Spurs, contributing two assists and a goal in each of the past two games. This is more than he did at Leipzig during the first half of the season, when he was not given consistent playing time.
Werner could join Tottenham in a permanent move
Tottenham have the option to make the signing permanent and the Premier League club could reportedly take that option.
The manager stated there hasn’t been any communication with the Tottenham player after speaking with media on Thursday, as quoted by RTL.
“We are not in contact, but of course I am following his development. He starts scoring again, this is a result of being comfortable and feeling good. He should keep riding the wave,” he said.
“Basically, he is one of our players, but Tottenham obviously have the opportunity to sign him completely.”
How Tottenham can sign Werner
According to a story published in the BILD newspaper on Thursday, Tottenham need to decide by the middle of June whether to exercise a purchase option for Germany’s Timo Werner.
Spurs need to make a decision by June 14 according to BILD. As per DPA sources, they would have to pay a transfer fee of €17 million ($18.6 million) if they choose to keep him.
In order to have more playing time and a chance to rejoin the national squad for the Euro 2024 tournament, Werner made the decision to return to England.
After playing for Leipzig from 2016 to 2020, Werner was signed by Chelsea for €53 million. In 2022, he came back to Leipzig for €20 million.
