Mauricio Pochettino has admitted he is “really happy” with summer signing Cole Palmer after another top performance from the midfielder against Newcastle on Monday night.

The 21-year-old produced a goal and an assist as the Blues overcame the Magpies 3-2 at Stamford Bridge, taking his total for the season to 11 goals and eight assists across 23 Premier League matches.

The Englishman has been Pochettino’s best performer since moving from Man City in the summer and his manager is very happy with the player.

“I’m really happy with Cole Palmer. He’s doing fantastic and getting more mature every day.” Pochettino has said about the youngster via Fabrizio Romano.

“You can see his quality, he can help us a lot.”

Chelsea’s Cole Palmer in contention for England squad

Not only will Pochettino be impressed with Palmer this season, but so will England boss Gareth Southgate.

The Three Lions have friendlies against Brazil and Belgium this month, and the squad Southgate picks will hint at the players he has in mind for Euro 2024 in Germany this summer.

Palmer may have played his way into the England squad and if he goes to the Euros, it will be the cherry on top of a great campaign for the Chelsea star, who has been one of the only signings the London club have got right since the new owners took over in 2022.
