43-year-old manager with 59% win percentage could join Leicester City

After a poor 2022/23 campaign by their standards, Leicester City begin their new season in the Championship.

Often known as the most difficult league in the world to get out of, whomever is at the helm at the beginning of the campaign needs to hit the ground running and propel the Foxes towards the top of the table.

That’s where they need to stay for the majority of the campaign, and in order to be one of the front runners of the division, they’ll need a manager with a strong work ethic, experience at the highest level and be someone who commands respect.

Though his last managerial position ended in disaster, Steven Gerrard has become a front runner for the Leicester vacancy according to The Sun.

Footy Stats note the former Aston Villa and Rangers manager’s stats to be a win percentage of 59% across his managerial career, and Leicester clearly feel that that warrants giving Gerrard serious consideration of nothing else.

Whether the Midlands-based outfit’s supporters will look upon that particular appointment favourably, should it occur, is a moot point at this stage.

Having not really set the world alight at Aston Villa, and with Villa being local rivals to the Foxes, it would be understandable if they were a little underwhelmed.

On the flip side, Gerrard does have a point to prove and as an established name who will automatically earn respect from the playing squad, it could be a move that proves to be successful.

  1. Oh God no. Gerrard had success in Scootland (who doesn’t) But has no Championship predigree/knowledge. Scott Parker a much better candidate (2 promotions) Who is making these awful decisions at Leicester ?

    1. I totally agree like so many great players in their time have tried and failed just as Gerard has it if y a miracle he does succeed he would soon be off to the bin divers and we would be back to square one

    2. Finally i have found someone who agrees, Scott Parker. He would be a great fit in my opinion. I loved Stevie G as a player, but not sure he’s got what it takes as a manager.

  2. Gerrard was not the real brain behind the operations at either rangers or villa. Michael Beale was the one pulling all the strings – then left to manage QPR and low and behold Gerrard was quickly found out and sacked. This would not be a sensible appointment at all. We need to be clever and get this appointment right. I partly agree with the Scott parker shouts, will do the job in the championship with the right investment during the summer and January transfer windows but has been found out in the prem before albeit without investment but what’s saying the board are going to invest this year and then straight away when we’re back up. We need to be realistic as fans and realise this is going to be a long term project and not a bounce back after a year in the championship straight back into European spots.

I personally would be looking at Viera, AVB or Gattuso as managers who are out of work and would really put a rocket into the squad or a manager like Will Still over at Reims, not 100% proven but plays awesome football and is getting results when people didn’t expect him too.
