If Liverpool still had aspirations of European football, the way they began the game at West Ham belied their intentions, with Lucas Paqueta deservedly putting the Hammers ahead after a brilliant move.
Jurgen Klopp and David Moyes had joked before the game about being the two elder statesmen in the league, but it was straight down to business when the whistle blew, and the hosts settled the better.
A wonderful passing move sliced Liverpool apart and when the ball fell to Paqueta, he rifled in from 20 yards.
