In-form Liverpool star beats Manchester United striker & Tottenham hero to PFA Fans’ Players of the Month

Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino has been voted PFA Fans’ Players of the Month for January ahead of Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney and Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane.

Although the Reds won just one of their four Premier League matches throughout the first month of 2016, the Brazilian produced the best form since his £21.3m summer arrival from Hoffenheim.

Playing as a central striker, the 24-year-old scored four goals in as many games – a double in the thrilling 3-3 draw with Arsenal at Anfield, and another brace in a 5-4 away victory at Norwich City.

Rooney matched Firmino’s tally throughout January, rediscovering his scoring touch with four goals for United, while Kane bagged three to help strengthen Tottenham’s Premier League title tilt.

But Firmino’s form in a Liverpool side which is struggling to cope with numerous high-profile injuries and a packed winter schedule saw him pip the England international strikers to the award.

Sheffield Wednesday striker Gary Hooper, Wigan Athletic midfielder Max Power and Accrington Stanley forward Shay McCartan won the prizes for the Championship, League One and League Two respectively.
